NC AFL-CIO ENDORSES HAMPTON DELLINGER FOR LT. GOV.
#2 State Race Becomes Priority as 100,000+ Member Labor Group
Foregoes Endorsement in Governor’s Contest

Raleigh (3/8/08) The North Carolina State AFL-CIO -- a coalition of unions covering the entire state and representing over 100,000 members -- has endorsed Hampton Dellinger in the Democratic primary for Lt. Governor. The group elected not to make an endorsement in the Governor’s race.

“The North Carolina AFL-CIO enthusiastically supports Hampton Dellinger for Lt. Governor,” said James Andrews, the group’s President. “Hampton is the kind of statewide leader working families need now more than ever, someone who can help attract and retain good jobs while ensuring fair workplace conditions.”

As a result of the group’s decision not to endorse in the Governor’s race, Dellinger will lead the group’s slate of endorsed candidates seeking state office. “Electing Hampton Dellinger as Lt. Governor will be a very high priority for our leaders and members,” Andrews said.

Dellinger thanked the group for its endorsement. “The expected surge in voter turnout magnifies the importance of being backed by well-organized groups such as the AFL-CIO, and I am thrilled to be able to add this endorsement to my earlier ones.”
 
In addition to the North Carolina AFL-CIO, Dellinger has the backing of the North Carolina chapters of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the United Transportation Union (UTU), as well as a leading women’s group, NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina.
