(04/07/08)  Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor Hampton Dellinger today released a statewide television ad highlighting his commitment to fighting special interests and speaking up for all North Carolinians.  Dellinger also released a direct mail piece featuring historian and civil rights legend Dr. John Hope Franklin.  Last month, Dellinger released his first statewide radio ad, which features Grammy winner Branford Marsalis.

In the TV ad, which will run in all major North Carolina markets, Dellinger pledges to speak for all North Carolinians and “bring high-paying jobs to every part of the state, meet the needs of seniors and students with special needs, and find real solutions for families in poverty.”

In the statewide mailing, Dr. John Hope Franklin says: “As Lt. Governor, Hampton will force state government to tackle poverty and discrimination, bring good-paying jobs to all parts of our state, and ensure that we take care of those who’ve taken care of us. That’s why civil rights leaders and groups across the state are supporting him. And so am I.”

Dellinger’s campaign is also hitting the radio waves. Durham resident Branford Marsalis, a world-renowned saxophonist and three-time Grammy winner, recorded his first-ever political endorsement ad praising Dellinger’s commitment to reducing poverty and creating good jobs in every part of the state. 

Dellinger said he was pleased to have such influential voices speaking out on behalf of his campaign, and that the TV ad will bring his progressive message to even more North Carolinians.  “Support from Dr. Franklin, Branford Marsalis, Al Gore, the AFL-CIO and others, coupled with the ability to run t.v. statewide, gives the campaign a tremendous boost,” Dellinger said. 

In addition to receiving support from Franklin, Marsalis, and Nobel Peace Prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore, Dellinger has been endorsed by the NC AFL-CIO, NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Black Political Caucus, among others.
