DELLINGER FIRST TO RELEASE PLAN TO ASSIST NC SENIORS

I am proud to be the first candidate for Lieutenant Governor to set forth a detailed plan to assist North Carolina seniors. On March 6th, the Wilmington Star News reviewed my proposals and printed an editorial under the headline: Attractive Proposals for Older Voters. Here is what the newspaper said about my plan:

"A candidate for lieutenant governor came to Wilmington last week to offer sensible suggestions on how to help the state's older people. Hampton Dellinger proposed restoring a tax credit for the purchase of long-term care insurance, establishing a simple system for rating the quality of adult care homes, moving mentally ill residents out of such homes, boosting financial support for services that help people stay in their own homes, offering better protection against scams and abuse, and a number of other ideas.

It was an admirably specific program, particularly considering that the election isn't until next year. But Dellinger isn't wasting any time... He understands a lot about politics -- including the fact that North Carolina's population of people over 65 is expected to double by 2030, and that older people tend to vote. He's hoping to give them reasons to vote for him. And he seems off to a good start."

It is true that senior citizens are a critical part of our Democratic Party. But, above all else, seniors are vital to families, neighborhoods, and communities across North Carolina. I believe that caring for North Carolina's aging population is not just a responsibility, it is an opportunity to benefit from seniors' experience, wisdom, vitality and commitment.
