Helping North Carolina be Number One

Hi. My name is Hampton Dellinger, and I am running for Lt. Governor

As North Carolina Democrats, we have a lot to be proud of. 

North Carolinais ranked in survey after survey as one of the top states in which to do business.  Often, we are ranked number #1.  It is an important and incredible achievement.

But for all the progress we’ve made during the past forty years, my lifetime, there is more – much more – we need to do.

First of all, we should do just as much for the women and men who work in the fields and factories and offices of North Carolina as we do for the companies their efforts make great.

Let’s work just as hard, and be just as effective, in making North Carolina a leading state in terms of the health of our infants and children, and the quality of our air and water.  

Let’s make North Carolina the #1 place in America to do maybe the most important job in America – teach – by not being satisfied with below or barely average teacher salaries or any testing regime that stifles individualized attention and the joy of learning.

Let’s be a leading state in promoting mass transit and sustainable energy.

Let’s acknowledge continuing racial inequalities and aspire to be #1 in reducing and eliminating the wealth gap and the health gap and the achievement gap and the digital divide.

We also need to lead, not follow, in freeing North Carolina’s scientific and medical researchers from right wing politics, and in a protecting a woman’s right to choose.

Finally, let’s become a model once again for open and honest and ethical government. 

As Lieutenant Governor, I’ll fight to make North Carolina a national leader in all of these areas.  I’ll stand up to any state agency or state official that isn’t serving the public interest,  isn’t doing everything it should to help the North Carolinians who most need effective, responsive government. 

And I’ll oppose any company in the private sector that is diminishing our state’s prospects as a place to work and call home, rather than enhancing them.

So help me be North Carolina’s number #2 and I promise to help NC be #1 not just in one thing that matters a lot -- being a great state in which to do business -- but in all the things that matter most.
