ENDORSES HAMPTON DELLINGER FOR LT. GOV.
Major Group Backs Dellinger Over Dalton After Hearing from Both
 

Raleigh (3/17/08)  Hampton Dellinger has gained another major political endorsement.  The members of the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg met last night at the Little Rock AME Zion Church and, after hearing from Hampton Dellinger and another candidate in the Democratic primary for Lt. Governor, voted to back Dellinger. 

Like Dellinger, Walter Dalton made a presentation to the entire caucus membership and spent the evening speaking with members one-on-one.  The two other Democrats seeking the nomination did not make in-person appeals for the endorsement.

“The large crowd of caucus members and candidates present showed how important the group’s endorsement is.  I am thrilled to receive it,” Dellinger said. 

Also attending the meeting were gubernatorial candidates Bev Perdue and Bob Orr, U.S. Senate candidates Kay Hagan and Jim Neal, and Treasurer candidates Janet Cowell, Michael Weisel, and David Young.

In choosing Dellinger, Black Political Caucus members joined a number of other major political groups backing the former Deputy Attorney General and Governor’s Chief Legal Counsel, including the North Carolina State AFL-CIO, the state chapters of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the United Transportation Union (UTU), and a leading women’s group, NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina.
