Gore and Dellinger Discuss Environmental and Other Policy Issues

(Raleigh, 2/14/08) Al Gore offered advice and support to Hampton Dellinger, Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor. Gore and Dellinger recently met at the former Vice President's Nashville home to discuss environmental and other policy issues.

"I applaud Hampton's efforts to combat climate change through reduced utility reliance on coal.  His vision and leadership are a tremendous asset to North Carolina. Hampton Dellinger would make a great Lt. Governor," Vice President Gore said.

In addition to serving as Vice President, Gore shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work to combat climate change. Dellinger's objection to the permitting of a new coal-fired power plant at Cliffside, near Charlotte, received broad public attention earlier this year.

"It was an honor to meet with Al Gore, and have an opportunity to discuss environmental and other policy issues," Dellinger said. "We first met in Wilmington in 1992 and, like so many others, I have been inspired by his work. In addition to his world-renowned environmental leadership, I deeply admire Vice President Gore's commitment to government reform, civil rights, and the South."

Dellinger is former Chief Legal Counsel for the Governor's office and served as a Deputy Attorney General in the North Carolina Department of Justice. In January 2008, Dellinger urged the Division of Air Quality to reject Duke Energy's request for an air quality permit for a coal-fired power plant at Cliffside.
