TWO MAJOR NC UNIONS ENDORSE DELLINGER FOR LT. GOV.
NC Chapters of Communications Workers of America (CWA) and United
Transportation Union (UTU) Combined Membership Exceeds 10,000
Groups cite his "effective", "progressive" leadership on behalf of working families

Raleigh (12/6/07) Hampton Dellinger's campaign received a major boost today with the announcement of endorsements by two North Carolina unions, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the United Transportation Union (UTU). Dellinger is a Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor who formerly served as Chief Legal Counsel for the Governor's office and as a Deputy Attorney General.

Wallace Weaver, CWA's legislative and political coordinator for North Carolina, said: "Hampton Dellinger has been an effective champion for workers and their families for years. On issues such as affordable health care, family and medical leave rights, and protecting retirement benefits, Dellinger has been a leader both in the Attorney General's office and the Governor's office. We look forward to working with him as Lt. Governor."

Richard Westbrook, Director of the UTU's Legislative Board, said: "Our members appreciate what Hampton has done to promote transportation safety and workplace fairness. He's been a progressive, effective leader in state government and he's a dynamic candidate on the campaign trail. The UTU is proud to back his bid for Lt. Governor."

The combined North Carolina membership of CWA and UTU exceeds 10,000. CWA members work for telecommunication and airline companies, including AT&T and US Air. UTU members work primarily for railroad and bus systems.

"Gaining the backing of well-organized groups representing over 10,000 North Carolinians, plus their members' families, is a big deal. Having worked in North Carolina politics for over twenty years, I know when a campaign has momentum. We've got it," Dellinger said. "As Lt. Governor, I will be a strong and effective statewide voice for working families."

For his public sector work, the North Carolina AFL-CIO in 2003 gave Hampton Dellinger an Award of Appreciation "in recognition of his concern for and work on behalf of working families in North Carolina."
